This week, we have been exploring the character of Tim the ostler in the poem called The Highwayman. We were able to write a character description and use ‘show not tell’ techniques, expanded noun phrases, figurative language and powerful phrases to show character traits.
His mind was a curse of fury and destruction. Tim the ostler glared at Bess and hissed her name. Reckless, raging, resentful- he was jealous of The Highwayman. His eyes were exploding with anger. Like a predator, he looked at The Highwayman with green envy in his eyes. Sneakily and Slyly, Tim would listen.
Lurking in the darkness, Tim the ostler sat listening. Rusted greed stained his callous mind. His yellow straw-like hair, which looked like a wig glued on, was disheveled. Raging, reckless, resentful- his ears steamed up with anger. Inside his mouth, his razor-sharp teeth showed when he snarled. Like a predator watching its prey, he glared at The Highwayman. Crimson anger consumed his body. Spine-chilling, his eyes watched carefully. Sneakily and swiftly, he vanished into the darkness.
Dangerous, devious, disgraceful- Tim’s heart was full of anger. Fiery hatred darted around his body. His soul destroying eyes were as dark as the midnight sky. His long, slithery tongue surrounded by yellow teeth hissed as he observed Bess. Stealthily and swiftly, he disappeared into the darkness while his nostrils flared out of frustration. Sinister rage devoured from within. His mind was corrupted by burning rage.
