The Highwayman

In literacy, we have been exploring narratives through poetry. We read a poem called ‘The Highwayman’ and discussed the main plot as well the characters. This was interesting as some of the language was new to us but we were able to use our reading skills to decode certain words. We then used drama to act out the narrative in the poem which was very exciting for us as it enabled us to depict actions through body language and emotions through facial expressions.

Towards the end of the lesson, we used ‘hot seating’ to ask The Highwayman and Tim the ostler some questions.

Here are some of our examples:

How do you feel about Bess sacrificing her life for you?

What do you regret the most about what happened?

What would you do differently?

How long have you loved Bess?
