The Victorians

For our history topic this half term, we will be learning about the Victorians and what life was like for Victorian children. This week, we explored the workhouses from the Victorian era and focused on the story of Oliver Twist which is about a young boy who was sent to a workhouse. We able to empathise with the character and use ‘show not tell’ techniques in our writing to describe how he would have felt.

As well as this, we also used drama to explore a character by asking questions and using hot seating to ‘interview’ each other.

We asked each other the following questions:

What jobs do you do in the workhouse?

How different would your life be away from the workhouse?

What do you have to do in order to survive?

How are you treated?
