Black History Month

Martin Luther King

This month, we have celebrated the lives of influential black people and discussed equality.

In Literacy, we wrote our very own speech after being inspired by the famous, ‘I have a dream’ speech by Martin Luther King. We discussed what we would like to change about the world and ensured that we made our words powerful by using repetition, high level vocabulary and superlatives.

Rosa Parks

We have also learned about the experience of Rosa Parks who was arrested after refusing to give up her seat on a bus. We used ‘hot seating’ and drama in our pairs to ask each other questions in order to empathise with a character. This enabled us to write a diary entry from the perspective of person who saw the incident and express our feelings and emotions about the incident.

We really enjoyed learning about these influential people who fought against racism.
