Talking to strangers

This week Mr Little ran an experiment with Amber about talking to strangers online.  We played an online game of Yahtzee against a stranger. The stranger was chatting and they chatted back. The children shared personal information like their name, age and their class teacher’s name. The stranger stated they were also an eight year old boy.
However, the children soon found out they were not chatting to an eight year old boy but Mr Seiczkarek. The class have been debriefed and now know what not to do. Here is the children’s thoughts after the experiment and they found it was infact Mr Sieczkarek.
  • I felt a little bit angry because I put personal information that I shouldn’t have. But after I was glad because I only gave that information to Mr Sieczkarek. Shanice
  • I felt relived because a stranger could have come to our school and done bad things but luckily we only gave information to Mr Sieczkarek. Ronnie
  • I felt a little nervous because we gave away lots of personal information. When I’m playing games at home I might have given that information away. Raegan
  • I felt very scared when Mr Sieczkarek came in. If it wasn’t Mr Sieczkarek we would have been in lots of danger. I was worried because people pretend to be people they aren’t just to get our personal information online. Yohane

Together Amber made these rules for using the internet!

  1. NEVER give any personal information, like where you live or the name of your school, when talking to people on the internet.
  2. NEVER use your full name on the internet. Always use a nickname.
  3. NEVER arrange to meet up with someone you have never met before.
  4. ALWAYS tell a trusted adult if you think that something is wrong and block anybody who asks for your personal information.
  5. REMEMBER to have fun but stay safe when using the internet.
  6. NEVER give away your password.
  7. If you ever get caught in a bad situation just leave the game or block the person.
